  3.   She takes us to lots of fun places
  4.   She always makes us laugh with her jokes and her tickles
  5.   She helps me with my homework
  6.   She teaches me art
  7.   She is the most special mother that I could ever have in the world!

I'm sure your moms are just as special as mine.  To all our moms, Happy Mother's Day and we love you!

  1. Dear Maya,

What a lovely tribute to your mother on Mother's Day! I bet she loved it!

My mother is very special to me. First, she raised me to care about other people and to always do my best. The lessons she taught me have helped me succeed in life. Second, she always cooked and baked delicious foods. Every birthday, she would make me a beautiful cake and decorate it in a special way. Finally, my mother has a great sense of humor. She always tries to look at the sunny side of life and is quick to laugh and have fun. Anyone can see, my mother is a special person in my life.

    Thanks for a wonderful post!

    Your proud teacher,

    1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Your mother sounds like a very special person. Did you get to spend Mother's Day with her?

My mom bakes me a special cake or cupcakes on my birthday too. I like to laugh with my mom. We love watching "America's Funniest Home Videos" together.

  2. Dear Maya,

Yes I too agree with Mrs Yollis this is really a lovely tribute to your mum for Mother's Day. This would have made the perfect gift to her I feel.

I love my mum so much for she has guided me and showed me the gift of giving and love. She has the ability to bring out the best in you even when things get difficult. She often would say you need to share and respect people and take an interest in them as people.
Never forget that the best things in life is sharing what you have which my mum always and still does.

My special memories of my mum as a child was that not matter how unwell she was she would always want to spend time with us asking about how we were doing. She would often say that time is all about giving and sharing. Also her huge hugs and kisses. :)

I know just how Mrs Yollis feels about her mum because I feel the same too about my mum.
My mum is my best friend and mum and for that I am so very grateful every single day.

Like Mrs Yollis I too would like to thank you for this beautiful post Maya.

    Sincerely,
    AA

    2. @ Maya,

Thank you for writing back to me. Yes many people do say that my mum is great. Often my friends would call her mum too.
I did get the chance to spend some time with her as a matter of fact she cook a big Italian meal to celebrate Mother's Day. I wanted to cook but she made it very clear to me and my little sister she was going to cook which she did. We had a beautiful dinner but best of all was the time we spent together.

      Take care,
      Maya

  3. Dear Maya,

Your mum is an incredible lady. Your tribute tells us how much she does for you and how much you love her for her efforts. Your mother is your first teacher who sets the grounds for your growth.

What do you love about your mother?
My mother is still a part of my life and, although over 80, still shows my brothers and I how much she cares. My elder brother is now 60, my younger 52 and I’m 57 but, to her, we are still her boys. As you grow older and become an adult, you will find you’ll always be your mum’s girl.

What are some special memories with your mother?
How much can I say? We lost my father when I was 12. Without training in any job, other than the farm girl she had been and with only an education to Year 6, she found herself needing to find work to support her three boys. She did this willing because she knew how important it was to keep her family together. Her three boys turned out (in order of birth) to be a university lecturer and researcher, a primary school teacher (me), and a property valuer.

Do you have a special memory with your grandmother?
Grandmother (paternal) – She was an intelligent woman who had wished to be a teacher but circumstances meant she couldn’t. She was mother to five boys, my father being the third. I remember her kind smile whenever I would visit.
Grandmother (maternal) – She was a hard working farmer’s wife who would rise before dawn to prepare breakfast for the boys when they had finished milking on the family dairy farm. She raised seven children, 3 boys and 4 girls. She was a no nonsense person who still had time for a good laugh.

Maya, thank you for sharing such a wonderful post to remind us all how special our mum’s are. :)

    1. Dear Mr. Mannell,

I liked what you said about always being your mom's boy. I am always going to be my mom's girl too. Your mom sounds like an amazing person. That is really special that she was able to keep your family together after you lost your father. I can't believe how many kids your grandmas have!

  4. Dear Maya,
Your grandpa and I had an uneventful Mother's Day. We did the usual Sunday stuff. Herb rode his motorcycle over to the Rock Store to meet with the motorcycle people and talk about tire tread design and big bore kits. That's too exciting for me, I stayed home and got stuff ready to go to work the next week.

I did take a few minutes to call my Mom. She's in New York State. She was at my sister's house having dinner when I called so we didn't talk long. She hasn't been well for quite some time and my Dad takes care of her. I was glad to see that she got out of the house to visit for Mother's Day. My Mom is 86 and she is too forgetful to do a lot of the usual day to day things that younger Moms can do. She lives so far away from me. I'd like to help her out with chores like gardening and such but I can't. I have a brother and 2 sisters that stop by to help out Mom and Dad each week though.

One of my favorite memories with Mom & Dad was going on a swamp hike at Watkins Glenn. A swamp hike is where you follow a stream through the wilderness and end up getting soaked stepping on rocks, falling into the water, and just going where the water goes. The river bed was so old that it had eroded a deep valley with the stream flowing below. The banks of the river were too steep to climb up the sides. (But we tried to anyway.) Mom didn't want to hike the whole distance so she brought the car to us at a picnic ground where the hiking path came up the hill from the stream bed. My brothers and sisters and I had to sit in the sun to dry out before we were allowed back into the car for the ride home.

This fall your grandpa and I are planning a trip to visit my family in New York. I would like to take him hiking at Watkins Glenn. He would like that hike. It is a place of happy memories for me.

    1. Dear Kathy,

Grandpa's motorcycle talk sounds too boring for me too! I'm glad you got to talk to your mom and that she had a good Mother's Day. Your hike sounds like alot of fun because you get to splash around in the water. I hope that we get to go camping sometime this year and we can all go on a hike together.

      Love,

I am always happy to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom, and am glad that she lives close enough that we get to see her often. I wish that Granny lived closer. I miss her lots and hope that we can go see her some time later this year. I also miss my Mamma so much. I'm sending her hugs to heaven right now.

  6. Dear Maya,

What I love about my mother is that she's nice and we usually go out to eat. One of my special memories was when I came out of her belly. When its Mother's day, my mom wakes up and opens presents. The present that got my mom was a flower pop up card.

What did you do during Mother's day?

Did your mother like your present?

    Sincerely,
    Trey

    1. Dear Trey,

During Mother's Day I had a special breakfast with all of my family. At breakfast there was bacon, eggs, fruit, hash browns, and coffee cake.My favorite food was the Hash browns. I really enjoyed playing with all of my cousins.

My mom thought it was the best Mothers Day ever.

    Dear Maya,

I have the same feeling you do, and I love my mom very much. I love her because :

    1. She helps cook dinner.
    2. She is a loving mom.
    3. She disciplines me in a fair way.
    4. She gave birth to me.
    5. She let's me go to my friends' houses and hang out with them.
    6. She is a Korean mom, so she teaches me about Korea.

All of those thing make my life a lot easier and nicer having the best mom around! She is not a big chore person, but it takes hard work to cook and she uses that as her excuse.

Is your mom similar to mine?
What about your mom is similar to mine?

  9. Dear Acacia,

My mom is pretty similar to your mom, except for the Korean part. My mom does not like to do chores either, but if she didn't do them we would live in a pig pen.
